This past week was wild! I ended up attending some AI and energy related panels at the WBG and IMF Annual Meetings held in DC. Imposter Syndrome was a real thing that I had to deal with as I stepped into the panel rooms just to listen and take notes. 😀
There was a lot of discussion surronding AI, data centers, and the potential benefits as well as risks for countries around the world. The overall stance was that every country is going to need data center infrastructure at the end of the day. This could explain the almost desperate push to build out data centers all over the world.
We live in interesting times! I disagree with that earlier perspective given the environmental impacts of all these data centers and AI model deployment that we need to work out first. Plus, if AI is a bubble at the end of the day, did we sink trillions of dollars into data center capital for no reason?
